Using criteria from the A2 assignment sheet as well as your knowledge of rhetoric and effective summary techniques, evaluate one of the example student essays (A2 Assignment Sheet). Identify three examples of the writer making a claim (in response to any one of the questions on page 59 in Understanding Rhetoric) and providing evidence for support. This evidence could consist of a summary of the author’s argument, a quote of her exact words, or a fact about when the article was published/background research on the topci. Note one of the places where the writer uses a transition to move from the ideas of one author to the ideas of another; include the sentence in quotes in your journal. Lastly, provide feedback on the writer’s strengths as well as areas that need improvement; use the A2 assignment sheet and A2 Writer’s Checklist to be specific.
