The Truman Show
One of the most inspiring movies is about a man named Truman (Jim Carrey), born and raised on a movie set. The set looks like a small town, but over it is a vast dome that can change the weather, turn from day to night, and is entirely controlled by an entire film crew. Truman’s whole life is just a show that is watched by millions of people worldwide, 24/7, without him ever knowing.
From a spiritual perspective, this movie is about Truman’s journey and how he realizes there is more to life than simply existing and following a set of rules. Truman decides he must find a way out to discover the truth.
Inspiring movies to watch: Rocky
This is also an all-time classic, an inspirational sports movie series (there are six movies in total) that follows Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), a struggling, unknown boxer, and his journey to becoming the heavyweight world champion.
In each of these films, Rocky was confronted with various life crises. Rocky is an excellent film if you must dig deep and remind yourself that quitting is never an option. As well as getting the work done, sometimes you must be willing to do more.
Sometimes you need to push harder and hurt more than you realize to succeed. And this is one of the most vital messages in Rocky, that mental toughness and the willpower to succeed are crucial if you want to achieve greatness.
Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine is about a troubled and somewhat dysfunctional family. They travel across America to the finals of a child beauty pageant, all while their car breaks down and they each struggle with their issues and the death of a loved one.
Hope and determination are strong messages in this movie and how important family and support is – no matter how weird or dysfunctional.
Inspiring Movies to Watch: Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a classic movie starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and the brilliant Robin Willams. The film touches upon a few controversial themes, from mental health and poverty to education, relationships, and improving oneself despite the trauma and past experiences.
Good Will Hunting is timeless because it addresses specific topics that men especially refuse to discuss. Dreams, fears, loves, hopes, weaknesses, heartbreak, loss, family, and friendship. Love, faith, and trust are also important themes in the film. The power of love plays a huge part in the movie as we learn that, in the end, love and compassion are what save us and make us better and more understanding humans.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is about patients in a psychiatric hospital in Oregon. An unruly and cocky new patient named RP McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) arrives at the hospital and learns that it is not quite what he imagined it would be.
The movie focuses on the importance of free expression and the need to challenge authority. Most of us are resistant to change. The film teaches us how important it is to stand up for what we believe in and take care and stand up for those who can’t. It encourages us to ask questions, even if they are hard questions with answers that no one wants to hear.
Forrest Gump
This is the story of a mentally challenged man who lives an extraordinary life. It covers several years of this kind and honest man. He always sees the good in other people and never judges; instead, he is always interested in others’ lives and tries to help.
Although the movie covers many dark topics, it never goes the depressing and preachy route. Instead, it focuses on Gump’s journey and highlights his ups and downs in life. He has a fundamental and simplistic view of the world but manages to positively affect everyone he meets on his life journey.
Dead Poets Society
Here is another brilliant one of the most inspiring movies based on a true story starring the legendary Robin Williams. Dead Poets Society features Robin Williams as Mr. Keating, an English teacher with very unconventional teaching methods at a strict New England boarding school.
He inspires his students to live boldly and passionately. And he does it all by using literature. Self-expression is an important message in the film as it focuses on youth and how important it is to stay true to yourself and your dreams.
Still Alice
This emotional but inspiring film focuses on Alzheimer’s, quality of life, and happiness. Dr. Alice Howland (Julianne Moore) is a brilliant linguistics professor at Columbia University.
But she is hit with a devastating diagnosis: early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
