If you have school-age children, you’ll want to research what kind of education they’ll be getting in their potential new city. A quick Google will show you exactly what schools are in the area in different neighborhoods, and use websites with parental ratings to see what parents really think of the schools in the area. Remember, changes in teachers and school leaders can really change the feeling of a school, so make sure to get the most up-to-date information and reviews about the school. 

Find a Place to Live

Apartment, studio, small house, large house- whatever your personal preference or need, it is necessary to find a place to live in your new city. Ideally, you should find this place before you make the big move.

However, if that’s not possible right away, look into short-term rentals through Air BnB and such- this will give you a chance to focus on adjusting to a new area while looking for a more permanent home. 

This will also serve as an opportunity to really think about what you need from a home. Like entertaining? An open-plan kitchen/dining/living area will work well for you.  Planning on growing your family in a new state? Think about the number of bedrooms you’ll need to fit people in.
