How To Get That Holiday Feeling At Home

Living through a global pandemic means a lot of things — health scares, missing friends and family, job worries — that make the need for a holiday even more pressing.

But for many people, that just isn’t possible right now (whether that’s because of government rules or simply to protect themselves and others).

So, while you wish you could stick your toes in the sand and feel the sun on your skin, there are lots of things you can do to make yourself feel like you’re on holiday!

Themed evenings order a gift basket

Have you always wanted to go to Hawaii, Japan, or even Guatemala? Well, why don’t you try and theme an evening around a place that you’ve always wanted to go to?

This could mean rounding up family or friends to come over and bring foods from a particular area.

You could order a gift basket full of treats from a certain place or rent a film set in the country you can’t wait to explore.

It might not be the real thing, but it can give you part of what you’re looking for.

Get the paddling pool out

Nothing says holiday more than dangling your feet in cool water! And that’s so easily achievable while you’re at home, not on holiday.

Pull the paddling pool out, make a relaxing space for yourself with a deck chair, why not make a cocktail?!

Holidays are about making time to enjoy yourself, so splash around at home and feel those cares slip away.

Eat alfresco

The feeling of wind blowing your hair. Wearing a nice outfit you’ve chosen for the event. Focusing solely on the people around you.

Eating outside is such a lovely thing to do on holiday. And it feels equally as lovely, without the plane ride.

Try pulling out the picnic table and inviting a loved one or two to join you while you eat and drink, and enjoy the sun.

Recreate the spa

There’s nothing like a massage on holiday, that’s true. But have you considered making your bathroom into a spa?

You can achieve this by stocking up on your favorite products, running a long hot bath, and lighting some candles.

You can enjoy this alone, or invite some girlfriends to get involved.

Indulge yourself with facemasks, pedicures, and moisturizing treatments, and forget you’re not abroad.

Step away from your phoneGet the paddling pool out

Part of the joy of a holiday is switching off. So, give yourself a break from the daily grind and take a couple of days off your phone.

Put it away in a drawer, and enjoy time by yourself or with loved ones.

It will help calm your mind and give you that ‘unplugged’ feeling you usually get while on holiday.

Try a new language

A change is as good as a rest! Pick up a guide book and teach yourself a few phrases.

You can enjoy the process of learning and prepare yourself for your next trip in the future!
